The casting powder is prepared with low-melting components that facilitate the formation of a smooth lubricating surface over the mould. This, in turn, makes sure that the molten metal gets solidified without any impurities or contaminants. The liquid slag formed gets settled between the mould and the billet shell, giving the system the requisite level of protection. Heat transfer requirements are also met through this layer, and chances of metal oxidation get minimised.
