Casting Flux

IFGL produces Casting Fluxes with the brand name FLOTHERM.

Our engineers and process specialists are continuously working with the customers to provide them best solutions and develop tailored products for the steel continuous casting.

Key Features

Thermal Insulation and prevention of re-oxidation:

  • To avoid heat loss that could cause premature solidification of liquid steel in the meniscus.
  • It also creates a barrier to avoid re-oxidation by contact with air and entrapment of other gases, such as nitrogen

Inclusions entrapment:

  • Casting Fluxes are designed to absorb any inclusions floating to the top surface.

Lubrication between steel shell and the mould:

  • Good lubrication is a very important function of Casting Fluxes. The lubrication capacity is related to the viscosity and solidification temperature.

Heat transfer control:

  • Horizontal heat transfer has a significant effect on the surface quality of the product. The vertical heat transfer helps overcome defects like pinholes and deep oscillation marks.

Full Range of Granules & Powder for Closed and Open steel casting

  • Carbon & Alloy Steel Grades (Slab, Bloom, Billet & Beam Blank)
  • Thin Slab Casting
  • IF Grades, Silicon Grades
  • Stainless Steel
  • Bottom Pouring fluxes

Tundish Covering Compound

IFGL produces various types of Tundish Covering Compounds. Tailor-made products also available as per customer requirement.

  • Silica based Covering Compound
  • Basic Covering Compound
  • Synthetic Slag

Key Features

  • Good flowability with minimum dusting when applied over the molten steel in Tundish.
  • No crust formation on the molten steel surface, provided an adequate depth of insulating cover is maintained.
  • Good ability to absorb non-metallic alumina etc inclusions floating out of the steel.
  • Compatibility with basic Tundish lining systems and with refractory Tundish components such as Monobox, Weirs, Dams and Shrouds.
  • Prevention of re-oxidation and N2 pick – up by providing a chemical barrier between the steel and the atmosphere.
  • Adequate thermal insulation in most applications.

Ladle Slag Fluidiser

The top slag in the ladles used for steelmaking are handled with the efficient ladle slag fluidizer system. The synthetic flux is prepared with a specific chemical composition, and has a high level of inertness. These fluidising components help in bringing about mass loss in the slag, at extremely high temperatures. Gradually, the viscosity and the basicity of the fluidized slag is made ideal for the metallurgical processes. Since the volume of material wastes is considerably reduced, slag-fluidisation has positive impacts on the environment as well.
