Our Journey

The foundations of the IFGL legacy were laid way back in 1979, with the establishment of Indo Flogates. Since then, the business has gone from strength to strength, and today, is a globally recognised entity in the refractory industry. Listed below are the key milestones in our exciting journey.

Legacy Milestones

1979

Indo Flogates was established in collaboration with Flogates Ltd, UK with an exclusive licensee of Flocon Slide Gate Systems and Refractories in the Indian market.

1983

Established manufacturing plant in Kalunga, Odisha, making us the first company to manufacture Slide Gate Systems in India.

1992

IFGL Refractories Limited was established to manufacture ISO Products in collaboration with Harima Ceramics Corporation. The first company to manufacture ISO products in India.

2005

We acquired Monocon International Refractories, spreading our manufacturing foothold in the UK, China, and USA.

2008

We acquired Hofmann Ceramic GMBH and ventured into the Foundry sector, with manufacturing units in Germany and the Czech Republic.

2010

We acquired E.I. Ceramics LLC in the USA in a move to expand our ISO products line capability.

2011

Our second domestic manufacturing unit was established in Kandla SEZ (Special Economic Zone) in Gujarat, India. It is a 100% export unit with a focus on ISO, Monolithics, and precast shaped products.

2021

New greenfield production unit was inaugurated at Visakhapatnam, India. This unit focuses on new & innovative products, to meet the evolving buyer requirements of the future.

2023

Sheffield Refractories Limited (SRL) has been acquired by Monocon, our wholly-owned UK subsidiary. The combination of extensive industry experience and technology package is set to add further value to our Group.
