Casting flux is a calcium silicate–fluoride based material, it plays a crucial role in the continuous casting operation of steel due to its multifunctional activities. It can be available in granular form as well as Powder form.

  • Granular form products for all grades of Carbon steel, Micro Alloys steel, Alloys steel, Stainless steel from for various types of sections such as Slab, Thin Slab, Bloom, Beam Blank, Billet and round finished products.
  • Powder form is mostly used as:
    • Open stream casting flux
    • Synthetic slag > Basic, Desulphursing & Dephosphorising
    • Ingot casting flux
    • Insulating covering compound > Acidic (Rice husk ash based)

Quality of our Product available under brand name of ‘Flowtherm’

Features

  • High Thermal Insulation: Minimizes heat loss from molten steel and stabilizes mould temperature.
  • Excellent Mould Lubrication: Forms a smooth liquid slag layer for reduced friction and breakout risk.
  • Fast & Controlled Melting: Designed to melt at a precise rate matching casting conditions.
  • Strong Inclusion Absorption: Efficiently captures and dissolves non-metallic inclusions.
  • Optimized Basicity & Viscosity: Tailored made for different steel grades to avoid cracks and defects.
  • Oxidation & Nitrogen Pickup Prevention: Creates a protective layer over molten steel.
  • Customizable Formulation: Available for low carbon, peritectic, high Carbon, Medium Carbon and special steels.
  • Granular or Powder Form: Suitable for both manual and automated feeding systems.
  • Low Dust & Moisture Content: Ensures clean feeding and consistent performance.
  • High Purity Raw Materials: For consistent chemical composition and quality results.

Benefits

  • Improved Surface Quality: Minimizes cracks, laps, and other surface defects on slabs, billets, or blooms.
  • Higher Casting Speeds: Stable lubrication and heat transfer allow increased production rates.
  • Reduced Breakout Risk: Smooth mould lubrication lowers friction and sticking incidents.
  • Cleaner Steel Production: Enhanced inclusion absorption ensures higher steel cleanliness.
  • Lower Operational Costs: Less downtime, fewer mould repairs, and extended equipment life.
  • Consistent Casting Performance: Uniform melting rate and viscosity for predictable operation.
  • Adaptable to Steel Grades: Custom formulations for low carbon, peritectic, high Carbon, Medium Carbon and special steels.
  • Better Heat Control: Maintains optimal solidification rate for uniform cell growth.
  • Enhanced Safety: Protective layer reduces splashing and exposure of molten steel.

Application

  • Continuous Casting of Steel
    • Slab & Thin Slab Casting: Ultra Low-carbon, Low carbon, peritechtic, medium-carbon, high-carbon, stainless and special steels.
    • Bloom & Billet, Round Casting: Alloy steels, tool steels, Rail grade, shaft and structural steels
    • Beam Blank Casting: I- Beam & H-Beam production used in construction.

Manufacturing Locations

About us

  • IFGL’s journey with Casting Flux started in the year 2015 with the Manufacturing at IFGL Kalunga, Odisha for both Powder & Granular.
  • The Steel industry is rapidly transitioning towards the continuous casting route, reflecting a significant shift in modern manufacturing practices. This increased product demand encouraged IFGL to set up a modern Granular manufacturing plant at Vizag, Andhra Pradesh due to its proximity to the steel plant & Sea port.
  • The Manufacturing process of the new Vizag plant is fully automated with the installed capacity of 18000 TPA of spray dried granular product plant fully capable to serve the both Indian & overseas market. The plant is supported by a modern equipped Laboratory for quality assurance.
  • Apart from Manufacturing & supplying high Quality Mould Flux our service also consists of R&D activities for advanced research & product development. IFGL has a fully Equipped High Tech Research Centre at IFGL Kalunga at Rourkela unit.
