Coke Ovens

Coke ovens operate at temperatures of around 1250-1300°C, with the refractory lining going through repeated thermal cycles of approximately 42-48 hours. The lining has to maintain its strength and stability through these repeated cycles while also dealing with thermal expansion, impact and abrasion.

The key requirements include:

  • Resistance to temperatures of around 1250-1300°C
  • Resistance to repeated thermal shock
  • Reversible thermal expansion
  • Structural stability of the oven roof
  • Good RUL and creep values
  • Impact and abrasion resistance on the oven floor
  • Higher thermal conductivity

Zone-wise Refractory Selection

Different areas of a coke oven have different operating requirements. The refractory selection is therefore made according to the application.
