With over four decades of excellence in flow-control engineering, IFGL Refractories Ltd. operates manufacturing units across Asia, Europe, and North America, supplying innovative refractory solutions to customers in over 50 countries.
As the only Indian multinational in this space, we set a benchmark in aligning industrial growth with environmental consciousness and responsible governance. Sustainability at IFGL is not a trend. It’s deeply embedded into our strategy and day-to-day operations, guided by Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles.
One of our core environmental goals is reducing our carbon footprint, and smarter energy use plays a major role in this mission. That’s not all. We have several other energy-efficient practices in place.
For instance, we optimize energy consumption using Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) on combustion fans, LED lighting and astronomical timers for street and shed lights.
The sunlight harvesting system at various units, including Kalunga, uses transparent roofing sheets to illuminate raw material sheds naturally.

All our units, including those in Germany and the UK, are at the forefront of renewable energy adoption. Solar power is generated across all locations, supporting our commitment to sustainability. Additionally, mechanised sweeping has been implemented at every unit, enhancing operational efficiency and reducing energy consumption.

Smart timers operate cooling hut fans in the facility, ensuring they run only when required, thus adding another layer of energy as well as operational efficiency.
At IFGL, we are integrating zero-waste practices into our operations by replacing wooden packaging with recyclable metallic boxes. We are also actively recycling and reusing wooden pallets and boxes, extending their lifespan and reducing landfill waste.
Through these measures, we have recycled large amounts of paper and reused Instapak for dye-making, ensuring that process wastes are effectively recycled, a solid proof of our ongoing commitment to optimise resources and minimise environmental impact across operations.
IFGL has established robust water conservation systems across its units. Meanwhile, expanded Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP) capacities offer compliance and sustainability in wastewater treatment.

To supplement water needs in a sustainable manner, IFGL installed rainwater harvesting units, which minimised the reliance on external resources, promoting groundwater recharging.
The company replaced employee motorcycles with bus transportation. This initiative not only boosts road safety but also supports low-carbon commuting practices.
At the heart of IFGL’s sustainability mission is its commitment to producing green products. The Visakhapatnam plant manufactures precast components, casting flux, and Magnesia Carbon bricks using low-heat, environmentally friendly processes. These products are engineered to reduce energy usage and emissions during production and usage.
Our ESG roadmap guides every decision, from sourcing to production. The key pillars of this roadmap include:
With sustainability woven into every aspect of its growth journey, IFGL exemplifies what responsible industrial leadership looks like.
Through innovation, collaboration, and unwavering dedication, we are reshaping the refractory industry to be more sustainable, ethical, and forward-thinking. As we continue to invest in technologies and systems that benefit both business performance and planetary well-being, we are on our way to becoming a truly green business on the global stage.
